Reap

Mon Mar 13, 2006, 5:20 PM

Our mission: To explore, express, and to educate humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural environment through art and other means.

REAP's goal is to reap respect for the rights of all living things and for the integrity of the natural environment upon which we all depend.

REAP News:

REAP is looking for someone to admin and/or make a REAP website. Savy? Drop a note! (Subject: 'help','admin','website' or something to that effect.)

REAP's Current Featured Issues:

Stop the Aerial Slaughter of Alaska's Wolves!

(The following article is taken form [link] Go there to sign the petition and learn more!

Governor Murkowski’s reinstatement of aerial wolf hunting in Alaska means heightened slaughter in a state that is already a hell hole for wolves. Hunting and trapping have already annihilated more than 7,000 wolves between 1996 and 2002 - and possibly even twice that number if unreported harvests are accounted for. Nearly 7,500 wolves have been killed in just the past five years!

Land and shoot hunting, when hunters in airplanes chase wolves to the point of exhaustion and then shoot them when they are too tired to escape, threatens wolves even more. It is unconscionable that Alaska’s government has assured the senseless and easy murder of perhaps thousands more wolves.

This new, heightened slaughter of wolves via aerial methods is a sickening return to the senseless, barbaric practices begun in Alaska prior to statehood and continued thereafter, this time with Governor Murkowski’s blessing. It is time for the governor to do the right thing - stop the slaughter.

Spix's Macaw
One of the rarest species of Macaw, there is only one surviving male in the wild and about only and estimated 3 dozen more in private collections worldwide.

In the wild-animal trade, the third most lucrative illegal global business after drugs and guns, the Spix's was prized as much for its rarity as for its beauty, a top-level trophy among the 16 macaw species in Latin America, more than half of which are endangered. In the late 1980s, there were reports of the Spix's selling for tens of thousands of dollars in Europe.

These are only a few peices of the bigger issue - mankind's stewardship of this world. By joining reap, submitting art depicting endangered animals or nature, spreading the word about REAP, or volunteering locally, we simply ask that you do what you can to make a difference.

To Join:
Joining is easy: just watch the club and send us a note with 'join' in the subject (we wouldn't want to miss a member because we didn't see a post on a journal entry or the main page.)

Rules/guidelines for artwork and member conduct:

Do's
- Do be tasteful - Gore is okay, but try and keep things in-hand.
- Do keep it PG-13.
- Do draw! If you'd like REAP to feature a peice of your art, it must depict an endangered/rare animal, or a habitat that's in danger, or must be themed to nature. Note REAP with a link to the piece of art and 'art feature request' in the subject. (However, it's certainly not required that you draw anything for the club. It's simply another way to have fun and be involved!)
- Do spread the word about REAP by listing us in your journal and telling others!
- Do feel free to note or comment if you want to know more about something!
- Do write! If you've written a story, article, song or poem that deals with our themes, feel free to submit those as well! Just note us with a link and 'lit feature request' in the subject. (again, it's not required that you write to be in the club. ^^)
- Most importantly... do have fun!

Dont's
- Don't submit ripped art. If we find out you have, we'll remove the peice and report you. You may be asked to leave the club. So, just don't go there, Okay?
- Don't use reap as a place to argue with another user. If you see a peice of art featured on REAP wich you believe is ripped, just note us politley and then take the issue up with the origional artist, not us. We'll take down the image in question and deal with the member on our own.
- Don't pick fights with other users here for personal reasons, and don't start flaming wars here.
- In short, don't violate any of DA's ettiquite policies on this page or we'll take whatever action we deem appropriate. M'kay?
